The surge has to be more than we've seen.Īlso, isn't the ability to enter Shadesmar physically more of a Soulcasting thing, given that Shallan can do it as well? Given that there is another order of Knights (Willshapers) that shares the surge of Transportation, I'm not going to assume that Transportation has anything to do with entering Shadesmar physically. If Transportation is "enter Shadesmar, then slog across it for days or weeks, possibly hiring spren to assist, and then only emerging back at a perpendicularity", then I fail to see the benefit. I'd also not assume it requires physical transfer to and from the Cognitive Realm in order to travel either. I have a hard time believing it is limited to transition at perpendicularities for one, especially given that we know Oathgates were invented/created somehow. I don't think we've seen anything near the capabilities of Transportation. Meaning also that gravitation users will have to be flying at all times. Basically pop in anywhere and drown your enemy in whatever element they're standing on. Just imagine, teleport in front of some gliding Edgedancers, throw up a wall to block their advance, or create a swamp to break their legs like we saw Amaram do to Kaladin. We know it's possible because the oathgates use surges to teleport. Many people believe Willshapers will be able to use cohesion and transportation to fold the cognitive and physical realms somehow to allow them to teleport, which should be very useful. The Willshapers can cross over fully but cannot peak into the realm before they do so. The only order who can see an attack coming from an Elsecaller is the Lightweavers because they can also peak into the cognitive from the physical (using transformation), though that is the extent of their ability. They'd be helpless unless they have plate (which should resist more against manipulation from the cognitive). They can peer into the cognitive realm, cross over, and then attack the other orders from that side. With this said, I still think the Elsecallers will be the most deadly. I would say division would be a tough one against another Radiant as well, but we don't know enough about it. So transformation could be an issue when used directly on Radiants/Fused, which is why Jasnah had to alter the elements around the Fused in Thaylen City instead of directly turning them into smoke like she did to Amaram's Soldiers. I think we're all forgetting that it's harder to use certain surges on highly invested beings.
